Making ourselves visible

Is speaking in public a performance?

When I started my public speaking journey way back when, I found it easier to approach it that way.

I was even told that listening to me speak was like watching an actor perform.

But one day, the penny dropped. I knew that I was still hiding.

And while performance can be a stepping stone to feeling more confident,

to connect with our audience – whatever the size – we need to be ourselves:

-       revealing our personality – and quirks!

-       speaking with presence

-       sharing our stories and insights and things that light us up.

Speaking in performative mode creates a disconnect.

And to make a change, a positive difference in the world… we need to connect.

With purpose, and clarity.

Starting by recognising our considerable resources.

Then sharing them with confidence.
