How to shine

in the spotlight

If you - or your team - make business presentations but you feel there’s something missing - you’re lacking clarity or connection, or get flustered by the butterflies - I’ll show you how to reach your audience.

Find your business stories and tell them. Comfortably, and confidently.

Yes, you need solid structure. Content that connects. A message that’s crystal clear. Perhaps a few slides.

But you don’t need to put on a show - or throw confetti - to get people to sit up and listen (all the way through).

You can move your audience simply by being yourself. Using all the richness of your singular voice. The creative power of words. And by trusting in your message.

You’ll find that when you do… doors start to open.

And who can resist an open door?

Caroline is a fantastic public speaker. She was our guest speaker for a motivational Tell Me More Talk, and the feedback afterwards was 100% positive. Clear, confident, engaging, funny, and warm - she has a very special knack for connecting with her audience. Would I ask her to do a repeat performance? Absolutely.

Public speaking coach and facilitator, communications mentor.
Sometime poet, occasional clown, Jane Austen fan.

I believe in the transformative power of words, and how we convey them.

Caroline helps people communicate better - public speaking, yes, but to be the best of who they are, in whatever environment. She’s an inspiration: a fantastic communicator and professional, a linguist with a love of language, and a wonderful, deeply empathetic person.

How I got here

My favourite spot used to be in the background, helping others stand in the spotlight and shine. I was like a rabbit in the headlights if I was on stage. Then I discovered – through putting on a red nose – that I can shine too. Now I don’t need the red nose. (But I still wear it from time to time.)

My path to finding my own voice is scattered with mishaps and milestones, big and small.

Growing up in Wales, the ‘Land of Song’, shaped my belief in the power of language and voice to enchant our audience.

Later, I hopped around in the world of international communications for several years, crossing borders and barriers. From media relations to representation. From corporate to non-profit. From Europe to Japan and back. Speaking French, Spanish and German. And a smattering of Japanese.

Pulling together threads, and weaving them into stories.

It took me a while to figure this out, but I realised that the key to connecting when we present… is presence. Being in the moment. Taking time. Getting curious. Listening to our audience, and making them feel special.

And that to be present in front of an audience, we have to want to do things differently. To step out of the template.

Take off the professional mask and show up as people. Speaking not just from the head, but the heart.

Amy Cuddy said, "The more we are able to be ourselves, the more we are able to be present. And that makes us convincing."

And it makes you – and your ideas - shine.

Your recommendations were fantastic! Thank you Caroline, for helping me to transform the original idea into a presentation with impact. We got it!!

What I like

Words: their colour, shape and texture. Water, especially babbling brooks. Wide open spaces. White space. Wonder Woman. Watching Wales win rugby matches.

Quiet. Simplicity. Sincerity. Singing. Green tea and cherry blossom.

Inventing names. Onomatopoeias (ouch!). Charades and Pictionary. Autumn. 100% cotton. Crackling fires. Fairy lights. Freshness and clarity. Christmas spices and stormy skies.

Films – especially French ones – that move slowly (way too slowly for my teenage children).

Where to find me

Walking on the beach (sometimes with a brown dog), somewhere south of Barcelona where the mountains meet the sea.

Alternatively, on LinkedIn.
