Words You Could Eat

I’m not going to talk here about how I can help transform your business presentations.

Instead, I invite you to have some fun by sharing a favourite word or two.

Words you use now, or words from long ago. Descriptive words, funny words, mysterious words.

Words that have a special meaning or sound. Onomatopoeias (oops!). Words that spark the senses. Or evoke memories

I’m calling them ‘Words You Could Eat’. Some of them may refer to something edible, but if they make the list it’s because they’re so lovely you could just munch them.

This page is inspired by a list I compiled with my teenage daughter, Eva, who also loves words. And a book called The Lost Words by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris.

In the most recent edition of the Oxford Junior Dictionary, around forty words had been dropped as they were no longer used enough by children. All the words were related to nature.

“The Lost Words” is a collection of beautiful, hand-illustrated spell-poems that conjure back into being those nature words, typical of the British countryside.

I share some of the lost words here (marked with *) to help ensure their magic lives on.

I’d love to know what words you could eat, and add them to this list.

If you’d like to contribute, click below to tell me your word, and why you could eat it. I’ll add it to the list, along with your first name and where you are in the world.

Let’s make this a space to share and revere our favourite words. And help ensure they stay found forever.
