The art of listening

How good a listener are you really?

Communication is not just about speaking, but listening too.

And yet, formal communication in a business setting often defaults to the one-way, PowerPoint-led presentation.

And hiding behind those slides.

Let’s take some guidance from Phoebe the dog.

Here’s why she’s a great listener:

  • She’s highly curious and empathetic

  • She really wants to understand

  • She makes great eye contact (if a little intense sometimes…)

  • She’s comfortable with silence

  • She knows it’s not just what you say, it’s how you say it.

When we’re speaking in a presentation or meeting, let’s see it not as something to be endured…

… but a golden opportunity for interaction.

To go beyond informing, to inspiring towards new insights.
