Nervous in job interviews?

Pastry and coffee

Are you someone who gets nervous in job interviews?

Here's an antidote.

“Feel free, if you’d like something to eat,” the job interviewer said.

We’re in a café in London in the early nineties, and I’m interviewing for a communications position in Paris.

It’s nearly lunchtime, and I’m feeling quite peckish.

So, I plump for a delicious-looking pastry with my tea.

We have a good chat, and she promises to get back to me.

A week later, I’m called for a second interview in Paris. And eventually, the job is mine.

The interviewer, who became my boss, later told me she was surprised I’d gone for the pastry.

And that for half the interview, I’d had sugar round my mouth.

But she still knew I was the right person for the job.

Which all goes to show, we don’t have to be perfect.

Just human.

Quirks, sugar and all.
